I WANTED TO SEE THE WORLD - MCSR 3005 |
|||||||||||||
This recital of songs from British musicals of the 1950s includes much rare and previously unrecorded material, performed by Adrian Wright with William Rayner at the piano. Among the songs are three from Julian Slade’s 1957 score Free as Air which played at the Savoy Theatre for a year, two from the ‘Australian’ musical Kookaburra scored by Eric Spear (best known for his Coronation Street theme music), and four songs from Donald Swann’s bewitching Wild Thyme. The other rarities include numbers from The Dancing Heiress (Millicent Martin starred in this one), a previously unheard song from Expresso Bongo, and two songs from one of the biggest of 1950s British flops, The Crystal Heart, seen in London with Gladys Cooper. The disc also has several piano selections from various shows. With: Adrian Wright, William Rayner |
