STREAMLINE / JILL DARLING - MCSR 3021 |
|||||||||||||
Vivian Ellis was one of the most prolific and expert composers of British musical theatre, whose career endured over several decades. Here, from the 1930s, are two scores – one for a revue, one for a musical. Streamline was one of C B Cochran’s most famous productions, starring Florence Desmond, impressionist and comedienne, for whom Ellis wrote some excellent material. From this show comes the evergreen ‘Other people’s babies’. Jill Darling was a musical starring the British blonde bombshell Frances Day and John Mills, with a score that contained one of Ellis’ cleverest songs, ‘I’m on a see-saw’. In newly remastered sound, this disc also includes bonus tracks of some of Ellis’ music played by British dance bands of the period. With: Florence Desmond, Frances Day, John Mills, Norah Howard |
