PADDY ROBERTS: STRICTLY FOR GROWN-UPS & POP SONGS MCSR 3046 |

Paddy Roberts returns to the Must Close catalogue in a new dressing - his most famous ten-inch LP 'Strictly for Grown-Ups' together with a generous selection of the many songs he wrote for the British Hit Parade. The most well known song from the album is probably the delightful 'Ballad of Bethnal Green', only one example of Roberts' highly welcome political incorrectness. In an age where political correctness has gone silly, Roberts provides a refreshing voice, apparently irreverent but actually all-embracing and sympathetic to the human condition. The pop songs are feisty, too, as sung here by such artists as Jean Carson, Rosemary Squires, Frankie Vaughan and Joan Regan. The collection of Roberts' songs ends with numbers from the film of J B Priestley's THE GOOD COMPANIONS. |
