The Prince of Political Incorrectness, that refugee from the pop charts of the 1960s is back with a vengeance in this double helping of his much-sought-after Decca LPs. In Songs For Gay Dogs Paddy is at his scatologically most carefree, insisting on telling us of those three old ladies locked in the lavatory, the tale of Lady Jane who worked the sunny side of Jermyn Street, the tragic end of Sammy Hall, and why you should on no account put your finger in a woodpecker’s hole. This unwholesome urbanity is still evident in the second of the LPs included here, Funny World, but this is a disillusioned Paddy, looking aghast at a new world he feels to be foreign. Superb stereo. |
