NO STRINGS - MCSR 3019 |
|||||||||||||
No Strings stands out in the works of Richard Rodgers as the only musical play for which he wrote both music and words. Following on his collaborations with Lorenz Hart and Oscar Hammerstein II, Rodgers wrote this score around a story of the love between a black girl and a white man. Highly innovative for its period, No Strings was a great Broadway success and in 1963 the show opened in London with a company headed by Art Lund and Beverly Todd, when it was taken into the Decca studios and produced for records by the great Hugh Mendl. Now restored to the catalogue in this newly remastered edition, we can hear that the London production was in every way the equal of the Broadway production, and Todd delivers a touching performance that alone would make this a worthwhile reissue. With: Art Lund, Beverly Todd, Hy Hazell, David Holliday, Marti Stevens |
