Song collections from American musicals are legion, but recitals of British musicals songs are the rarest of the rare. Gabrielle Bell and Rex Walford make their debut on Must Close Saturday Records with this offering of some neglected gems from productions seen in London between 1950 and 1975. The composers include Julian Slade (a rarely heard romantic number from his Wildest Dreams), Sandy Wilson, Ivor Novello, Lionel Bart (probably the best song from his disastrous Twang!!), Andre Previn, Donald Swann and Harry Parr Davies. The shows include The Matchgirls, Grab Me a Gondola, Lady at the Wheel, The Buccaneer, Divorce Me Darling!, Gay’s the Word, The Good Companions and Chrysanthemum. Bell and Walford also perform the songs of Harry Parr Davies on another Must Close Saturday disc.

With: Gabrielle Bell, Rex Walford
