GABRIELLE BELL SINGS HARRY PARR DAVIES - MCSR 3029 |
|||||||||||||
Harry Parr Davies wrote songs that live on through their melody and poignancy, writing such scores as The Lisbon Story and Jenny Jones, as well as many of Gracie Fields’ most enduring numbers. In this unique recital of his songs from his stage musicals, revues and films, the soprano Gabrielle Bell and pianist Rex Walford offer an intriguing collection of his work, with several previously unrecorded items. Ranging from the comedic to the sentimental to the passionate, this disc reveals Parr Davies as a skilful melodist with a particularly identifiable style of his own. The stage musicals featured include Dear Miss Phoebe, The Lisbon Story (with four premiere recordings), Blue for a Boy and The Belle of New York. As Walford writes in the sleeve notes ‘Parr Davies’ work and achievement is only now beginning to be seen in true perspective’. With: Gabrielle Bell, Rex Walford |
