FOLLOW THAT GIRL is one of Slade and Reynolds' most delightful works, the successor to their Salad Days, which it followed into the Vaudeville Theatre in the Spring of 1960. A fantasy about the love between Victoria and Tom, a young playwright, it begins in the present day and reverts to the Victorian era when Tom's characters come to life. The score has an entrancing title song and many other attractive, typically Slade, melodies, not least 'Solitary Stranger'. The qualities of the music are well displayed by the splendid Michael Collins' orchestral selection which make one of the bonus tracks for this release (along with a foxtrot of the title song from Victor Sylvester!). Invaluable, too, is the recording the Bristol Old Vic Company made of some of the numbers from Slade and Reynold's next show, the Christmas entertainment HOORAY FOR DAISY! Here we have a bouquet of these simple, unaffected items.
