CINDY-ELLA - MCSR 3009

A great success of the 1960s, Cindy-Ella is a black version of the age-old Cinderella story, performed by four black actors and using songs of the Deep South. This fortieth anniversary reissue of the original cast recording, originally available from Decca, confirms its place in theatrical history. The four performers could not be bettered, with Cleo Laine in crystal voice, and Elisabeth Welch as her perfect co-leading lady. Skilfully adapted by Caryl Brahms and Ned Sherrin, the show was recorded in a perfect, intimate acoustic by the Decca engineers, so that we are drawn into the drama and triumphs as poor neglected Cindy-Ella conquers all adversity and wins the love of the handsome Prince (Cy Grant). Proving the theory that ‘small is beautiful’, Cindy-Ella, like a cuddly dog, is not just for Christmas.

With: Cleo Laine, Elisabeth Welch, Cy Grant, George Browne
