The original London cast recording of David Heneker's superbly successful British musical of the 1960s returns in Decca's recording. Based on the story of Arthur Kipps, as originally told by H G Wells, Heneker provided a scintillating score that stands as one of his finest achivements, not least in the hit song (providing a phrase that has gone into the language) 'Flash! Bang! Wallop!'. A young Marti Webb has her first major leading role as the love of his life, singing one of the show's loveliest numbers 'Long ago'. It is of course Steele himself who seizes the moment in one of the strongest musical play performances of the decade. Issued to celebrate the centenary of the birth of David Heneker, the composer of many British musicals including Expresso Bongo, Charlie Girl and Jorrocks..
