REVIEWS from NICK WAKEHAM in MUSICAL STAGES Autumn 2011

MARIGOLD

A delight! The whole CD from the cast recording of Marigold through to the Melvillainy is just so crisp, clear and fresh. If you haven't heard the score of Marigold, you are in for a treat - it isn't ground-breaking in any way, it is simply a generous piece of theatre from a bygone age ... The Melvillainy portion of the CD is wonderful ... And this is Melville at his funniest and, sometimes, most poignant ... This is one CD that will be played time and again, I can assure you - and one that I have already put on my ipod to listen to no matter where I am - it just makes me smile.

JOHNNY THE PRIEST

This is one of those musicals that's stuck in its era - the 1960s - the age of teddy boys and jiving. As such it has to be listened to with that in mind. However, I can't decide whether I like this or not ... The remastering of the CD is up to the usual standards of Must Close Saturday Records and the additional material found on the CD from Cranks, New Cranks and And Another Thing are a pure delight and worth the purchase price alone.

And have you missed these? Don't!
